Members of MeKZ Ljubljanski Madrigalisti stayed active with online rehearsals but nothing can replace singing together, polyphony, smiles, and the looks coming from our conductor. The program is a tribute to families that were broken apart in the previous century, temporarily or permanently. It is relevant today since we are far apart from each other due to the pandemic. Even if we’re maybe not so aware of it, we do miss a smile, touch and hugs.
Two folk songs, charged with heavy emotions of people separated from their loved ones, announce the very point of the following two songs. Aleksander Vodopivec wrote music for a part of the last letter that our national hero Pink Tomažič wrote to his mother before the Italian authorities sentenced him to be shot. The last one is a brand new song by Anej Černe that offers sentiments of men, who have taken over the reins of their families while women served in Alexandria. The program is about brave fathers, courageous mothers and solid love.
Hommage à mama Olga: the great grandmother, who was arrested by the fascist Italian authorities on the night of March 10, 1943, and separated from her one-year-old Magda and family for seven months. She was deported to the Fraschette di Alatri camp below Rome, from where she fortunately returned alive. She went on with her courage, and courage is precisely what we need in these times.
